Lantern-Lit Snowshoe Hike

Family holding lanterns and walking in the snow

Join the Cazenovia Preservation Foundation (CPF) for a magical evening as we light up the night with a lantern-lit snowshoe hike on Saturday, February 8 at 4:30 p.m., as part of Cazenovia’s Winter Fest Celebration!

We’ll wear snowshoes, if conditions permit, otherwise, we’ll go for a winter hike. Adult and kid-size snowshoes are available to borrow on a first-come, first-served basis, courtesy of the Friends of Stony Pond (FROSTY). If you plan to borrow shoes, please arrive between 4:00-4:15 p.m. so that we can get everyone outfitted.

We’ll hike about 0.7-1.2 miles on the Fairchild Hill Trail, depending on the group’s interest, and return to Meier’s Creek Brewing Company where participants can purchase hot cider or other refreshments to enjoy by the fire pits.

More info about this and other CPF Snowshoe events, including FAQs, can be found on our events page.

To make a lantern:

  1. Visit CazArts to sign up for a Lantern Making Workshop with Krista Brown on February 1-2. Space is limited, so be sure to reserve your spot soon!

  2. Can’t make it to the workshop? CazArts has also prepared several lantern kits (complete with instructions) so that you can make a lantern on your own schedule (it does require some drying time, so make sure to do this a few days before the hike). Kits are available to purchase for $5 each at CPF’s January 12 and January 23 Snowshoe Sunday events or contact info@cazpreservation.org to arrange a time to purchase one at the CPF office.

Note: You are not required to make a lantern to join the hike, but you’re welcome to bring or create your own. Please, no glass or flames on the trails.
