May Birding Walk with John Pumilio - Fairchild Hill, Saturday May 27 8:30am

May is a wonderful time for birding in Central New York! Join CPF and John Pumilio for a birding walk at Fairchild Hill. John is the Director of Sustainability at Colgate University and the former Director of Ornithology Workshops at the National Audubon Society. John will be leading us on a morning walk at Fairchild Hill on Saturday, May 27, 2023 from 8:30-10:00 a.m. We will be on the lookout for chickadees, juncos, sparrows, tanagers, orioles, hummingbirds, bluebirds, warblers, hawks, woodpeckers and other species who make Cazenovia their summer home.

CPF will apply to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation in the summer of 2023 to list Fairchild Hill as a stop on the New York State Birding Trail. Data collected during this walk will be used as part of our application.

2023 Bobolink Nesting Site Identification  - Burlingame Meadow,
Saturday June 17 8:30AM

Avid birder and former CPF Board President, Jim Steinberg, observed four bobolink nesting sites in the meadow at CPF’s Burlingame Road property during the 2021 breeding season. Noting the presence of the birds, CPF worked with the neighboring farmer to delay mowing until mid-August when the birds had fledged, in accordance with NYS DEC's guidance for managing habitat for meadow-nesting bird species. We were pleased to see the bobolinks back again last year and we’re hoping the trend continues. Join Jim for a guided walk to identify the locations of 2023 bobolink nesting sites in the Burlingame field.
