Global Big Day Bird Walk

  • CPF Fairchild Hill Trail Parking Area (map)

Join John Pumilio, Director of Sustainability at Colgate University and former director of ornithology workshops at the National Audubon Society, for an early morning bird walk through CPF’s Fairchild Hill property. We’ll be on the lookout for chickadees, juncos, sparrows, tanagers, orioles, hummingbirds, bluebirds, warblers, hawks, woodpeckers, and more!

Global Big Day is an annual birding event, organized by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, that encourages bird lovers of all ages and experience levels to observe and record bird sightings in a 24-hour period. Each year tens of thousands of people from around the world participate. The final tally often exceeds 7,000 species—nearly three-quarters of the world’s bird species recorded in just one day. Every entry contributes valuable data to the global eBird database, helping scientists track bird populations and migrations worldwide.

Now’s your chance to be part of this global effort right here in Cazenovia!

What to Bring:

  • Enthusiasm for nature!

  • Comfortable, weather-appropriate footwear (trails may be muddy).

  • Binoculars for the best birdwatching experience.

Who Can Join?

This event is open to all levels and abilities—whether you're an experienced birder or just curious about the feathered friends in our area.

Meeting Location:

We will gather in the dedicated Fairchild Hill trail parking lot behind the brown building across from the south end of Cazenovia Lake, near the intersection of Routes 20 and 92.

Important Note: Parking is limited for this popular event. Please carpool if possible and only park in the designated Fairchild Hill trail parking area.

Come be part of this global birding movement, contribute to conservation efforts, and enjoy the beauty of birds in Cazenovia!
